Do you suffer from chronic hip pain? Have you tried treatments such as modifying the way you perform activities, taking Tylenol or non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs), or using walking aids like a cane or walker to help with pain? If so, and you have seen little-to-no-improvement, you may be a candidate for a total hip replacement surgery. Michael Kain, MD, the newest member of the orthopedic surgery team, specializes in hip replacement surgery and can help patients move more easily.

“Hip pain can be extremely debilitating to a patient’s lifestyle,” says Dr. Kain. “It can make simple tasks such as walking around, or getting in and out of a car challenging. For athletes, they may no longer be able to participate in their favorite sport. And for some patients, simply remaining independent is a challenge. Hip replacement is extremely successful in bettering quality of life and relieving pain so patients can get back to their favorite activities.”

Total hip replacement surgery consists of removing the damaged joint, and replacing it with an artificial one, which can be made of a number of types of materials including highly cross-linked polyethylene, titanium, cobalt chromium, or ceramic. Total hip replacement is the most successful operation performed in the U.S. Ten-year survivorship for total hip replacement is approximately 95%-97%, and patient satisfaction rates are approximately 90%.

BMC’s team of nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and all other care team members are committed to providing the best possible care to patients through a multidisciplinary approach that involves the whole team.
