The Yawkey building entrance is now closed.

As of April 29, BMC’s Yawkey building doors are closed as an entrance. All patients and visitors on our main campus must enter the hospital via the Shapiro, Menino, or Moakley buildings, where they will be greeted by team members at a new centralized check-in desk. Learn more.

Our spondyloarthritis program is led by Drs. Maureen Dubreuil and Jean Liew, who are leaders in the field of spondyloarthritis, which includes both ankylosing spondylitis and psoriatic arthritis.

Psoriatic arthritis is a chronic inflammatory arthritis that typically occurs in people with skin psoriasis. However, it can also occur in people without skin psoriasis, particularly in those who have relatives with psoriasis. It is a form of spondyloarthritis, which means it is a type of arthritis that can cause inflammation of the spine.

Ankylosing spondylitis is the main type of spondyloarthritis, in the same family as psoriatic arthritis. The main symptom of ankylosing spondylitis is inflammation of the spine, leading to back stiffness and pain. Over time, the spine can become fused.
