The Yawkey building entrance is now closed.

As of April 29, BMC’s Yawkey building doors are closed as an entrance. All patients and visitors on our main campus must enter the hospital via the Shapiro, Menino, or Moakley buildings, where they will be greeted by team members at a new centralized check-in desk. Learn more.

Boston Medical Center’s Interpreter Services Department is one of the oldest interpreter services programs in New England. Our department works to ensure effective communication between our staff and patients and we provide qualified medical interpretation to patients and families who want to receive health care information in a language other than English, including American Sign Language and Certified Deaf interpreters.

Interpreters are available free of charge 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Interpreters are available in person, over the phone and video to ensure access to more than 150 languages spoken by our patient population. Our technology provides access to American Sign Language interpreters 24/7.

For deaf and hard of hearing patients we have TTY’s and assistive listening devices available upon request.

We ask that patients do not bring anyone to interpret for them or use family members for medical interpretation
